  Prof. Piero R. Bianco and his associates use a combination of biochemical and biophysical approaches to study the molecular basis of stalled DNA replication fork rescue. Their model organism is the well-characterized bacterium Escherichia coli (E. coli), since the majority of the proteins thought to be involved in fork rescue are known. Most of their experimental work is concerned with the function and regulation of the complexes that control fork rescue, with studies focused primarily on the role of the single-strand DNA binding protein (SSB) and several recombination DNA helicases. They seek to understand fork rescue utilizing both bulk-phase and single molecule techniques. They study DNA binding, unwinding and the hydrolysis of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) using a combination of modern spectroscopic (both ultraviolet–visible and fluorescence) and equilibrium binding methods. His research team is also pursuing a new area of research targeted at developing small molecule inhibitors.

  Piero R. Bianco现任美国纽约州立大学法布罗分校微生物与免疫学系副教授。Piero R. Bianco副教授在1987年毕业于艾柏林基督大学(Abilene Christian University)并获得生物学学士学位,1993年在德克萨斯州大学休斯顿分校药学院(University of Texas Medical School at Houston)获得生物化学博士学位,后于2003年在加利福尼亚大学从事生物物理与生物化学方面的博士后研究工作。 Piero R. Bianco副教授的研究工作主要集中于DNA复制、重构和修复、分子遗传以及蛋白质功能与结构等领域,获得包括Innovation, Creation & Discovery Award from the Research Foundation of SUNY (2005)Frontiers In Bioscience Society of Scientists (1998)等荣誉,并多次在《自然》、《细胞》等著名杂志发表文章。
